What a Sewer Camera Inspection Finds
A sewer camera inspection sends a waterproof camera through your main drain line and transmits real-time video of the pipe interior. You can see scale buildup, root intrusion, offset joints, grease accumulation, collapsed sections, and any point where the pipe wall is compromised.
In Las Vegas, two conditions are particularly common. First: tree root intrusion — even in xeriscape yards. Roots follow moisture and will travel significant distances to reach a sewer line, entering through small cracks and expanding until flow is impeded or blocked. Second: older clay and cast iron drain lines in established neighborhoods accumulate scale and debris over decades. Las Vegas's hard water accelerates that buildup, and grease adheres to mineral scale more readily than to clean pipe.
A camera inspection converts "the drain runs slow" into "there's a root mass 32 feet out on the main line" or "the cast iron has a collapsed section between the cleanout and the street." That precision determines whether you need a cleaning, a targeted spot repair, or a longer pipe section replacement — and it means you're not paying for work that won't address the actual problem.
How We Do It
We run the camera through the cleanout access point — or through a pulled toilet if the home has no accessible cleanout — and record the full line. You see the same footage we see. If repair is needed, we quote it based on what we actually observed. If the line needs clearing, we can combine the inspection with hydro-jetting at the same appointment.
- Full main line camera inspection with recorded footage
- Root intrusion, scale buildup, and pipe condition assessment
- Precise distance and depth location of blockages or damage
- Companion hydro-jetting available when line clearing is needed
- Written repair quote based on actual inspection findings
- Same-day service available across Las Vegas
Signs You Need a Camera Inspection
- Slow drains in multiple fixtures simultaneously. A single slow fixture usually means a local clog. Multiple fixtures backing up at once points to the main line.
- Recurring drain backups despite recent snaking. If the line has been snaked and blocked again within months, the underlying cause — root intrusion, scale, collapsed section — wasn't addressed.
- Sewage odor from drains or the yard. Persistent sewer gas smell at floor-level drains or in the yard over a drain line indicates a compromised pipe.
- Gurgling from the toilet when you run the bathroom sink. Air being pushed through a partial blockage in the main line causes gurgling at nearby fixtures.
- Water backing up into the tub or shower when you flush. Water taking the path of least resistance back up through nearby drain openings is a main line blockage signal.
- A home over 20 years old with no prior sewer inspection. Root intrusion and scale accumulation develop gradually. An inspection gives you a baseline before problems compound.
Sewer Camera Inspection Questions for Las Vegas Homeowners
Is a sewer camera inspection the same thing as a sewer scope?
Same thing, different names. “Camera inspection,” “sewer scope,” and “line inspection” all refer to sending a waterproof camera through the drain line to inspect the interior. The terms are used interchangeably.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for the inspection?
Not much. If you have a ground-level cleanout, that's the access point. If not, we may need to remove and reset a toilet to access the line. Let us know if you're aware of a cleanout location.
Can the camera tell you exactly where a problem is located?
Yes. The camera tracks distance from the access point and approximate depth, so we can tell you how far out the issue is — which is how we know where to excavate if repair is needed, without guessing.
What happens if the camera finds something?
We show you the footage and explain what we found. You get a written quote for any repair before we do anything. If the line just needs cleaning, we can recommend hydro-jetting at the same appointment when appropriate.
How often should Las Vegas homeowners get a sewer inspection?
For homes over 20 years old, every 2–3 years is reasonable as a proactive measure. If you've had recurring slow drains or backups, sooner. Pre-purchase inspections before closing are standard practice.
Can you do a camera inspection without a cleanout?
Yes, though it adds a step. Without a cleanout access, we pull a toilet, run the camera through the drain, then reset the toilet after the inspection.
